CBM MPS802 and 1526 Dot-matrix Printers... some notes on troubleshooting latest updates and corrections 9-6-05 I own three of these printers but only one is working because of chip failures in the other two. By swapping chips around, I have at least nailed down what is wrong with them even if I can't repair them at the moment... not without a source of parts. A bad CPU (U7D, a 6504) will make the printer appear dead. The power LED will not come on and the motors will not move. Two of my printers need CPU chips. I don't know of any other device that uses that IC. A bad RIOT (RAM-I/O-Timer, a 6532) chip at U4D will cause the power LED to blink continuously at a one-per-second rate. There are two RIOT chips and they are interchangeable. I understand one of the PET computers also used that IC, but I have not confirmed that. One of these printers prints an extra line over normal characters. This is either a bad printhead, or more likely a bad driver circuit that is turning on one pin at the wrong time. If the pin were stuck, it would likely tear the paper. I once had a printer do that.
