Oh, yeah!  Last year I discovered that the band, Firefall, had a presence on Facebook.  By the time I found out about them, I had missed all their concerts for the year.  This year I'm not making that mistake again.  I went to their Facebook page, found their Events section, and discovered that they were going to have a concert on Sept. 18 in Bakersfield, 1 1/2 hours away for me.  Though I dislike Ticketmaster and all their fees, I signed up for a ticket to the concert!  Ah, now that will be fine music!

Not having seen the band since the 1990's,

The other day I received the DVD in the mail, "Rock 'n Roll Greats: Firefall in Concert."  It was used, but it played perfectly.  The DVD is from 2004 and was filmed in Tennessee during a music festival.  Except for some feedback during the live performance, the concert was very nice.  A good preview of what to expect when Firefall comes to California on their concert tour.

Less than 48 hours to the concert!  I'll have dinner at a Chinese buffet in Bakersfield before the concert.  After the concert, I'll stay at a Bakersfield hotel for the night.  Then on Saturday I drive off to the SCCAN meeting in Northridge.

The night was cool.  The outdoor amphitheatre setting was perfect.  The band played all their famous tunes!  All very loudly, even though I was seated halfway to the stage.  My only regret is that they didn't have any newly-created Firefall tunes to play.
I tried to take pictures with my little Canon digital camera, and I mean tried... its autofocus is failing, its image stabilization is gone, it powers off every 2 minutes.  But after setting the EV to minus 2 and the ISO to 1600, I was able to take photos at its full 8X zoom without noticeable camera shake.
After the concert, I bought a Jock Bartley (the band leader's solo effort) CD and have him autograph it.  I mentioned that I recently bought the rare Firefall 2004 concert DVD, and he said that another concert DVD was in the works.
Up next a Sept. 26 Warp 11 concert in Sacramento and then a Nov. 27 Trail Band concert in Canby, Oregon.
