I just finished all four seasons of the original Knight Rider. It's not quite as good as I remembered it, but is definitely 80's! I suppose tastes change. Have you watched any 80's TV show box sets lately?

At a friend's house on Sunday, I got to see Airwolf vs. Blue Thunder, Airwolf vs. Firefox, and Airwolf helps Rambo rescue the soldiers (o.k., that last title is not exact but it's out of Rambo II). Yeah, Airwolf made mincemeat out of Blue Thunder (which did not have much in the way of offensive capabilities). It was hard to believe that Airwolf could destroy Clint Eastwood in Firefox. ;) I liked the pithy Dirty Harry sayings thrown into that video. And Airwolf should have more of a hand in destroying the Russian chopper (basically it was more of wingman to Rambo and his mission).

Picked up a single dvd of Terrahawks last year. I'd missed that in the 80's but was good to see it now. This summer I picked up complete set of another older Gerry Anderson series, that is UFO. this one not animated in any way like many of his others. But its not 80s, the series was produced in '69 and '70. Next on my list will be Space:1999 or one of my 80's faves. Perhaps some Doctor Who. lots to choose from.
For Christmas I received a box set of t.v. show, Boston Legal, season 4 (in fact, two of the same boxed set... now what will I do with the duplicate?) Now all I need is season 5.
Needed for my Shatner fix, ;)

The box sets are pretty cheap these days. My wife picked up four seasons of Three's Company for $15 each; I got Season 1 and 2 of Gilligan's Island for $20. It's a good time to grab them on DVD, because I think they're clearing out DVD's to make way for Blu-Ray. Thing is, considering the format most of these shows were shot at, I can't imagine the image and sound quality getting any better than DVD.
Just recently picked up first season of knight rider at Zellers for $10. Have yet to watch it but as a fan I soon will be.

Actually, 1960s shows were shot on 35mm film which has far more resolution than even 1080p video. So, if a studio wishes to release a series on Blu-ray, it is not impossible... Star Trek: the Original Series and the Prisoner being two 1960's shows released in Blu-ray. Next up is the original Twilight Zone being released in Blu-ray (though the video engineers' work is cut out for them since some of the TZ shows were shot to 2-inch quad videotape which doesn't have very good resolution compared to video nowadays).

This is true, but a lot of 80's shows were shot on videotape. It was a higher quality videotape than the VHS used in most homes, but when stored in DVD format, I can't imagine the videotape getting any better. You can really tell the difference between film and videotape on a DVD; a show like The Incredible Hulk, which was filmed, looks very crisp; while a show like the A-team, shot on videotape, looks noticeably softer and lower resolution.
Also, considering what I used to watch Gilligan's Island on the first time around, the upconverted DVD's look brilliant! ;D

Agreed. The original videotape, when shot at a certain resolution, cannot be forced to a higher resolution.

Sorry to disagree there. The A-Team was shot on film, as were all of Universal's prime-time drama/adventures productions in those days. However, comedy shows like Three's Company, Maude, All in the Family, etc. were shot using videotape. If the A-Team looks softer on DVD, blame the transfer process or lower-quality film elements used in the transfer.

Hurrah! Another set completed! First, it was Star Trek: the Original Series, then F-Troop, then Babylon 5, then the Invaders... Now I have all the seasons of Remington Steele. Released on Tuesday, my M:I 88 package came in the mail yesterday! The first thing I noticed was that the DVD casing was the same as that of the Star Trek: the Original Series HD casing; the only difference being that ST came in blue and M:I came in translucent plastic. I knew what the front cover of the casing looked like, but I didn't know what covered the back. I was pleased that the back had more shots of the cast. The following text was also on the back --
"Your mission, should you decide to accept it..."
"IMF missions are on a need-to-know basis... and you need to know that MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE THE '88 TV SEASON is now available on DVD for the first time ever! The spy show that revived the classic series stars Peter Graves, in the reprisal of his role as Jim Phelps, brilliant leader of the Impossible Missions Force. This collectible 5-disc set includes all 19 thrilling episodes that put Jim and his new team on call to save the world... one pulse-pounding mission at time."

In fine print near the bottom, it says, "Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions. Music has been changed for this home entertainment version." (I guess that CBS/Paramount couldn't get the re-release rights on some of the music. Hmm, that means that the original music must be sitting on the Beta Hi-Fi videocassettes that I recorded from the original broadcasts.)
I immediately popped in the first DVD into the player. The first menu gave me a choice of either seeing Previews or the Main Menu. I took a brief look at the Previews, and those advertised season 1 of the new Hawaii Five-O and season 8 of NCIS now out on DVD. In the main menu section, there were no extras but a listing of the the episodes available for playback, an option for English subtitles for the hearing-impaired, and a still of Peter Graves looking at you. No music played when viewing the main menu.
I picked the first episode, "The Killers", and as I was watching it, I was "multi-tasking", i.e., enjoying the story, comparing it to the original Killers episode, and noticing how the production turned Australia into the locales for the new Killers episode (if that is supposed to be London, it's awfully bright and sunny... And what is that huge bridge in the background which doesn't seem like any bridge I've ever seen in London? ;) ) The picture quality seemed sharp, and the sound was good (stereo, Dolby Digital).
I look forward to the final season of 16 episodes to be released.

O.K., I saw the fourth M:I movie starring Tom Cruise. Though the story was not very M:I-like in the spirit of the t.v. show, there were key tributes through the movie, tributes that harked back to the show. A self-destruct mode, a fuse sequence, a needle in a ring, a vehicle on treads, and an optical illusion. Hmm, what others can I catch?

Finally saw the first episode of Crusade last night. "War Zone" was the pilot episode which set up all the characters (and interestingly enough, set up a character which never reappeared). Back in 1998, I had missed this show opener (and it was never repeated on TNT), and so, I was watching it for the first time. Written by J. Michael Stravzynski, the characters were typically JMS characters -- strongly realized and well-spoken. The story not only had plenty of exposition to set up the characters but also plenty of spacey, sci-fi action to please the hardcore sci-fi fan. The episode had a wealth of special effects by Netter Digital, and though the computer effects couldn't match modern 2013 effects in terms of realism, they were dynamic. With such a promising start, it was shameful that TNT gave the show such a bad timeslot and cancelled it so quickly.

Though I have all 4 separate seasons of The Wild, Wild West on DVD, Amazon.com put the boxed, complete show on sale this week for $29.99 (not including shipping or tax). What a deal! I ordered it! (Well, it's on back order, due to everyone buying it.) Why should I buy it again when I already have all 4 seasons? The complete boxed set includes the two WWW sequel movies, and being a completionist, I thought that the price was not too much to get the sequel movies.

When I came back from Europe, I found the package sitting at my front door. I opened it up and discovered that within the nice box were the discs sitting relatively loosely in cardboard slots... and that was all the protection! I examined a few of discs and found rub marks on the video side. :( That wasn't good. So, I put each disc in a Maxell disc sleeve. With the discs now in sleeves, they don't fit the box anymore. Oh, well, so much for the fancy box...

When the 1980's cop show, T.J. Hooker, was being played earlier this year on the FamilyNet channel, I tried to record every episode. I already had season 1 on DVD, but none of the other episodes had ever been released. I was well on my way to having the complete set of episodes, just missing one episode in season 4 (due to an error in video-recording) and three episodes in season 5 (due to their not being shown). FamilyNet started the rerun cycle again, starting with the pilot movie and the first episodes of season 1. I was planning to catch those missing episodes in that cycle. Unfortunately, FamilyNet halted all T.J. Hooker reruns (and those of Starsky and Hutch, too). FamilyNet substituted old 1980's comedy shows in T.J. Hooker's place. That's just wrong!
And so, I may have to buy bootleg DVD's (the complete series) just to get those missing episodes. I think I will do that in December as a gift for myself. :)
