Title: A-Team
Post by: Rorshach on May 07, 2010, 02:56:51 PM
I have not been out to the movies much in the past 10 months or so due to being the owner of an HDtv but one thing I did notice a few months ago was the trailer for the A team movie due out this summer.  Trailers can and usually are misleading but it appears they're trying to capture the feel of the series.  Of course no word on cameos of the original surviving actors  but who knows.

Well, I've been seeing the trailers and previews for it in the last few days, and I am a bit put off by all the digital visual effects.

IOW, if you notice it's an effect, then that's bad,

It was cool that for the new movie's premiere in Hollywood the actors rolled up in an Abrams tank.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/04/a-team-premiere-bradley-c_n_600746.html

I did go see this movie last week.  I did have fun watching it.  Its not exactly the same as the series due to the actors being entirely different and the differences between tv and movie production not to mention nearly 30 years having elapsed.  I did try as much as I could to remember that this like most movies from 80's tv its more of a restart than the same story.  The story line was changed quite a bit from the original, no longer vietnam vets they are now ex-rangers who served in iraq in 91.  And yes in a minor point the red & black Baracus van did get flattened early on.  By a large rooftop AC unit knocked on it  by a helicopter,  yes its still a real stretch in some places.  Overall I would put this in the middle to upper part of its genre, not perfect but not as abysmal as a few movies remade from old tv.

Hmm, it sounds like a movie to be rented or to be seen on an airline.  :)  With movie theatre prices up, even for matinees, I have to be careful of spending dollars.

Typically I go out to movies once a month, far less than I used to when living in Toronto. Mostly due to the closest theatre is abysmal though cheap, rarely a movie I want to see, always crowded with screaming kids and stinking of mothballs. When I do go I invariably end up at the cineplex in bowmanville or the galaxy at peterborough. Note: I do not mind kids but I object to having people running around the theatre screaming loud disrupting a movie I paid to see, so as stan lee puts it "nuff said". But here some of the cineplex locations do have half price tuesday showings which is when I usually go, typically $5.25 at the two I go to most often.

Luckily for us, with HDtv & blu-ray available and coming down in price watching movies at home has become a lot more fun.
