O.K., I finally did it. I bought my plane ticket to Europe. I depart Los Angeles International on June 7 for London Heathrow and return on July 6. I hope to get in contact with as many of my European Commodore and Amiga buddies as I can.
Another whirlwind of travel,

First up will be the Netherlands Commodore Show on June 18 where I will see organizer, Ron van Schaik; Dutch visitor to our club, Daniel Strang; maybe even 1541-U developer, Gideon Zweijtzer; and C= fanatic, Dirk Klettke. I remember 3 years ago that Ron wanted me to bring mysterious C= stuff the next time I visited the show. Well, I've decided to bring the Turbomaster CPU cartridge (4 MHz., NTSC). That should knock their socks off! ;)

No word back from C= and Ami friends in middle England and north England. So, I don't know if they want me to visit. The same with Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit.com in Cardiff. Ditto for Dirk Klettke of the Dienstagstreff C= Club in Bochum, Germany. David Cwik from the Czech Republic says that there is no Monastery Party this year.
However, I did get an answer to my inquiry about attending the Lincolnshire Amiga Group meeting in northeast England; they're going to try and move their meeting schedule to accomodate my travels. The same with Simon Vergauwen of the Belgium Amiga Club in Antwerp; he's going to try and get something going when I come over for a visit. As for another Amigathering in Greece, Frank Livadaros says that the gathering will be in April or May... too early for me.
With all this uncertainty, it's difficult to figure when to go for a few days in Paris. My friend, Peter, will not accompany me this time, and so, I'm going alone, looking for accomodations for one instead of two. That leaves out package deals for two. So far, it looks like I'll buy a Eurostar train ticket a la carte and stay at a bed-and-breakfast, the website being http://www.aroominparis.com Then a city tour or two, courtesy of Paris-Vision.com However, without any firm dates from my contacts above, I can't do any more advance planning.

Europe is a trip I am planning for the near future; we should go together one year.
This year is still up in the air; who knows, you might see me there in June.

Whoa! That would be great. I was expecting some of my fellow teacher friends to meet up with me in London, but they seem to have cancelled their plans because of rising plane ticket prices. I bought my non-stop ticket near the bottom of prices back in January, but now the prices are going up in the march up to the summer tourist season, and I don't see them coming back down.

At first my friend in S. England wanted to take me to the Isle of Wight, but now he wants to bring me to the James Bond Museum in Keswick. It would take a day to get there and a day to get back. Add to that a day at the museum.
Possibly thinking of replacing Paris with Madrid or Barcelona,

O.K., the other day I received a reply from Matthew, and he'd welcome a return visit from me. I e-mailed him, saying that if my weekends were busy, then I'd have to make a mid-week visit to him.
I'm starting to compile a list of items I'd buy from him - a Buster 11 chip, an A1200 floppy drive, and two CDTV mice. I'm even thinking of a ZorRAM board for my Amiga 4000. That board is pricey, though.

I've been in contact with another English gentleman, and there is the possibility that I'll be bringing back a really big computer item. So big that it won't fit my suitcases but would have to fly in the cargo hold (for an extra price, of course).

Plans are firming up for my European trip. There are some changes to my journeys. June 11 I will be at the Lincolnshire Amiga Group meeting in northeast England. The June 18 Netherlands Commodore Show is still a go. I'll probably be visiting Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit.com in Cardiff on a weekday. I've received word that there will be no Belgian Amiga Club meeting during the time I am over in Europe. There is no news of another Amigathering in Greece nor a Commodore Computer Club U.K. meeting in central England, and I must conclude that those won't happen. I was investigating a Commodore Meeting in Helsinki, Finland, but that event is on summer sabbatical until August. Also there was the RetroCommodore event in Rome, Italy, but that was on the same date as the Netherlands C= Show. I'd still like to visit the Dienstagstreff C= Meeting in northern Germany.
With extra time on my hands, I can be more of tourist and less of a Commodore show/meeting attendee. Paris is still in the running for a return visit, but now I have other ideas of visiting Barcelona, Spain or Athens, Greece.

Aw, I made one more effort to contact anyone from the CCC UK. No response. :( I guess they don't even want to talk to me by phone.
Dirk K. of the Dienstagstreff C= Club has invited me for a visit. So, I will be off to the Essen area of Germany again. :)

School is over! Summer vacation begins! And I just bought 5 rolls of Kodak Portracolor 220 film to feed the Bronica GS-1 camera for the European trip. However, the Tutto small suitcase I ordered 2 weeks ago still hasn't come in! I guess I'll have to slum it with the torn Tutto carry-on that I have.

Done! They were a good group of friendly, welcoming people! Too bad I didn't bring an Amiga to set up and join in with the fun. I did take photos and video, though. And I asked a lot of questions. I especially liked the A600 put into a Mac LC desktop and the AmigaOne G3 in a tower case.

I'm on the train now to that meeting in Enfield. Because there was no train service out of Lincoln until 11 in the morning, I'll be coming into the ANT meeting one hour late. Darn!
The train's wi-fi is not too fast (trying to open multiple sites causes it to slow down and crash). The weather is typically English - light rain for June.

I came back from the Netherlands Commodore Show yesterday. Of course, they wanted me to come back to the next show, and I had to disappoint them by saying, "In 3 years."
Right now I'm in Cardiff, Wales, after a visit to Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit.com. We talked much about Commodore, Amiga, the computer business, Amiga and Commodore shows, hardware, software, and more.
