Raymond C. from Riverside, California wants to donate his PET stuff to FCUG.  I told him that we already have the PETs he wants to hand over - PET 2001, PET 4032s (in various working and non-working states), many parts, and manuals/literature.  As a compromise, I came up with the idea that the working PETs would go to the DigiBarn museum near San Jose, that the non-working PETs would be kept for eventual repair (though Ray Carlsen surely doesn't want to work on PETs again), and that we would photocopy the manuals/literature for posterity.
He even wanted to bring them up this week from his area -- a good 4-5 hour drive -- but I told him I was busy with parent conferences after school.  We'll arrange another time, probably when I am down in the Los Angeles area.

Robert-

I need a picture tube for a 4032 and the Teacher's Pet could probably use the 2001 for spare parts.

Rorshach

I wouldn't mind having a pet but finding a spot for it and shipping costs would be difficult. There is someone in toronto who maybe interested I'm not sure.

We'll see if and when those PETs come in from S. California.  :)

Robert, I wouldn't mind one as well.  Me and my family are overdue for a vacation road trip, so over the next year or so I could plan something to swing out by your way.  Actually, that'd be pretty cool now that I think about it.  Not the PET, but just to meet THE Mr. Bernardo.  My wife, who's a member of these forums, would probably kill me if she knew I was getting another retro computer.  I'd count on the fact that she doesn't read them much, and then I couldn't turn down a "Gift" from a long distance friend, could I?   ;)

(Sally, if you're reading this, I love you and promise to fix the garage door and dishwasher!   :) )

At CommVEx?  :)

That would be my father.  ;)

Let's see how many of those machines are working first.  :)

It appears that I will be meeting up with Raymond on May 23 or 24 (Memorial Day weekend).  He has reminded me that he has a lot of PET stuff.  My car will probably be overloaded with goods - front seat, back seat, and trunk (it's usually that way anyway, but I'll have to unload the older stuff in order to put in the new).  :)

Any plans on being up in Seattle or near Ray's?  Up for some Shari's?

RobertB

In late June I will be up around Portland/Astoria/s.Washington State, and I will be visiting Ray Carlsen at that time.  I'll be picking up repaired Commodores and dropping off others for repair.  In tow will be Peter Hanson, the Plus4 king of England, who will be touring the West Coast with me.

                    Mmm, Shari's Restaurant sounds nice,

O.K., I'm meeting up with Raymond next Saturday.  Whew, I hope the weather is not in the 100s when I get to his area in the desert!  Also it seems that I'll have a documentary film crew following me around to that meet.  :)

I got to Raymond's place at about 4:30 on Saturday afternoon.
QuoteWhew, I hope the weather is not in the 100s when I get to his area in the desert!
Fortunately, there was a cool front coming from the Pacific Ocean, and so, it was sunny and pleasant.

Yes, filmmakers Rory and Jerrold accompanied me to the meet with Raymond.  In fact, Rory sat in the my car as I drove, filming me and asking questions.  It's a good thing she came along, because I became lost and had to depend on her GPS device to lead us to Raymond's house.  Because Raymond was the theatre production manager for Riverside Community College, he did very well in front of the videocamera, as he and I gabbed about all the PET stuff he had in several huge boxes.
The boxes were too big to fit in my car, and so, we had to empty them of their contents and stuff the items individually into the vehicle.  Raymond gave many details on what I was getting - the PETs, drives, magazines, manuals, schematics, disks.  In fact, he powered up each PET to show me in what condition each was in.  They all powered on, but one had a garbage-locked screen, another read only 70 bytes free, and another had a strange, splitscreen 80-columns on what should have been a 40-column PET.
He helped me load the PET materials into my car, and the filmmakers and I left after 2 to 3 hours being there.  Here is a list of the hardware received - a chiclet PET 2001, a full-size keyboard PET 2001, three PET 4032s, three PET 8050 drives, one PET cassette unit, three PET motherboards (unidentified), one PET 4032 keyboard, one chiclet PET 2001 keyboard, two PET power supplies, one PET 4022 dot-matrix printer, and an Epson dot-matrix printer to be connected to the PET.

I am tempted by a 4032 as thats the fist computer I actually used though I never owned one.  But the distance is pretty large.  Any chance of a 4032 & 8050 not being spoken for yet?

None are spoken for, though Stephen J. wants a 4032 for its picture tube.

The PETs and all related materials that I gathered from Raymond C. will go into storage this Saturday.  Interestingly, the filmmakers who have been tailing me want to videotape my unloading the car and putting all that stuff into storage.

Then they want to follow me to Maker Faire the next day,

The PET and the related materials are now all stored away, awaiting further repairs and/or study.  When I met West Coast PET guru Larry Anderson at Maker Faire on Sunday, I told him that he'd have to come down to Stockton and look over all of the stuff.  He also agreed that the chiclet-keyboard PET 2001 that has the locked-up garbage screen may only need a reseating of its chips in order to work again.

And the filmmakers did not help me one bit as I packed
                 during that hot Saturday,  :)
