Hi,

I am about to take delivery of an Atari 800XL system and was wondering if there is a device that will allow me to load programs from a memory card? Something like Commodore's 1541U+ or SD2IEC.

Cheers,

Pete.

I have heard of one available for the ST series called "satandisk". Not a well thought out name as it will draw out the lunatic fringe but apparently it is available and works within the limits of the TOS and hard disk drivers available on the ST. All I can suggest is try a search engine for now. Asking anything on AtariAge seems to set off an entirely different freak show from what I have seen.

Yes, Pete.  There is the SIO2SD from Hungary.  Bill Kendrick, organizer of the Atari Party 2009, showed off his at the show.  Contact Bill for more information on how he ordered his.  You can reach him at

Hey RobertB,

Does Bill or someone else have a website up about it? or is it up on his own new breed software site?

Thanks Robert. I did a Google on this topic and also found another device from the Czech Republic that looked really good, but there were no prices or ordering information on the site.

I'll have more time this Thursday to look further into it.

Regards,

Pete.

I think the best bet is to e-mail Bill directly and ask him how he got his SIO2SD.  He may have some pointers on the process.

I've emailed Bill, and also the makers of the device. Fingers crossed  ;D

Thanks for the information, Robert!

I'll let you know how I get on with it.

Pete, did you get the name of the people who produce this?  Do they have a website?

Thanks for the link!  Now if I can get the courage and the money to buy that card drive for the Tandy 100.  :)

Well, I now have the SIO2SD device, and it's a good little unit. Good build quality and easy to use.

Now for the Atari Noob question. How do I get OS A and OS B games to run on my 800XL with this device? Is there a DOS switcher available that I can use?

I really want to play Donkey Kong and Encounter on my XL but these are both OS A/B games.

Cheers,

Pete.

Well, it's a memory allocation problem, not an OS problem. Numb Nuts here just remembered about booting with Option pressed to disable BASIC  ;D

All games so far fully working. I may be gone for some time  ;)
