Best movies from the 80's?

I have some movies from the 80's, I suppose my tastes have changed since then.  Movies like QuickSilver I used to love; I found it in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart, watched it again, and found out why it's in the bargain bin.  The Back To The Future trilogy will always be a classic in my books.  What about you?

Then there's Tom Hanks in Big, love that film. Ghostbusters, Goonies, Gremlins (not so keen on Gremlins 2 though), Karate Kid, Short Circuit. I can go on and on. WarGames!! totally hooked on that film as a kid, and still watch it at least once a month

A number of others I'll recall later.  Been doing divx's of many of my movies for use on my PS3 starting with the 80's movies.

Speaking of DivX, I've been pleasantly surprised lately.  I've downloaded entire seasons of different impossible to find shows, which are usually in DivX format.  I would use software on my computer to convert the files and burn them to a DVD.  I just found out (by accident) that a cheap Citizen DVD+ReWritable player I bought a few years ago for under $100 (model number C801DVR) plays these DivX files flawlessly, allowing for a good dozen 45 minute episodes per 4.7GB DVD-R disc.  I also discovered that my cheap non-widescreen 20" Audiovox LCD TV, model number FPE2006DV, bought a few years ago, can also play DivX discs perfectly with its built-in DVD player.  This TV, which seemed unremarkable at the time (besides having a built-in DVD player), continues to surprise me.  Last year, I discovered it can handle a PAL signal and display the image properly, which is great for my retro computing hobby.

Oh, that is quite a find for a television that size.

I've been doing my movies at 1100mb per movie,  while large gives better quality.  I also do them at the regular dvd resolution of 720x480. still about 4 movies per disc.  have sum tv series which I'll do at about half that size per 45min to hour episode.  Probably will start on the old UFO tv series box set I got this summer.

Darn, my dream Samsung Series 5 32" hi-def t.v. is no longer a dream.  Exactly one year ago, I tested the t.v. with a PAL DTV joystick and got a good, colorful PAL image on what supposedly was a NTSC t.v..  Well, on Friday I was prepared to buy what I thought was the same t.v... same designation... same cabinet design.  However, what a difference a year makes.  Now my PAL DTV joystick displays only a 3/4-sized picture in black-and-white on the t.v..    My brother surmises that Samsung had changed the firmware in the t.v..  Same result with the Series 2, Series 3, Series 4, and Series 6 t.v.'s (yeah, I tested them all).  Just for reference, I checked out the PAL DTV with the Sylvania and Magnavox 32-inch t.v.'s (both made by Phillips); these t.v.'s would not even display anything from the PAL DTV.
    So, I am now back to square one.  Paul, that Audiovox LCD t.v FPE2006DV... can you reconfirm that it displays a good, color picture with a PAL signal?

I thought the same thing, but it turns out that most modern digital cameras and camcorders that have a video out signal have a menu setting allowing you to switch between PAL and NTSC.

Model is 40RV525U its doing quite well for me in the under $1000 range for a 40 inch tv.  I just haven't really needed pal.
