     With the many shows I already have on DVD, I could open up the Bernardo Broadcasting Company (BBC) and broadcast a really low-power television signal to fly under the radar of the FCC.  I'd have prime-time programming for seven nights a week!    Nah!
     Hopefully, for my birthday I'll receive one or more of these on my wish list (in order of desire)--

              Benny Hill (his 1980's seasons of this comedy/variety show... I already have the 1970's seasons)
              Airwolf (action-adventure... I still need season 3)
              The Equalizer (drama)
              Remington Steele (comedy action-adventure)
              Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (sci-fi action-adventure... oh, but what a terrible last season)
              maybe even Married with Children or Miami Vice

Well, more out of the 1970s, I liked the satirical show, Fernwood 2 Night, and loved the even more outrageous, America 2 Night.  I believe that only the former has been released to DVD.

and many of the british sitcoms including:

Keeping up appearances
Only fools & horses (a sinclair or amstrad appeared in one episode)
Red Dwarf (this did run into the 90's so not sure if it is retro yet)
and several others I cannot remember names of right now.

I don't know that 1980's show, but there should be an official DVD release of Max Headroom and all the rest of the seasons of T.J. Hooker.

RobertB, you have just given me a major set of Max Headroom flashbacks and its all your fault!  I seriously liked that show.  First thing when I got back into commodore was find an original copy of the game and the Max Headroom demos which I often leave running in the background.

I had mixed feelings about Max Headroom.

On one hand, it represented what Amigas could do, and injected something new in our modern culture.

On the other hand, it was never convincing and became a caricature of itself.

I'm still torn.

  I was sad when the show got cancelled.  I was just getting used to it and saw that the writing was improving as the show continued.  In a search for pirate DVDs of the show, I found that it was released on laserdisc!  However, because of its rarity, it would be a costly buy.

First thing when I got back into commodore was find an original copy of the game...

You know... I never did play with that game.  Is the gameplay good?

     Oh... and the quintessential 80's action show, Street Hawk, is now out on DVD, too.

I bought Max Headroom for $30 plus tax at the Borders Bookstore in Bakersfield.  On the cover, it is listed as the complete series.  I discovered that means it does not include the British production Max Headroom, a movie which was not a pilot for an American series and had a grim, depressing feel to the story.
    I watched the opening pilot, Blipverts, last night and found it to be a show ahead of its time.  What was hard to understand back in 1987 is now more understandable, i.e., I guess we are all more technology-minded now.  And it had a bit of that 80's vibe to it!

         And I can swear that there are one or two

At the San Francisco Star Trek convention last weekend, I bought a pirate DVD of the Max Headroom Talking Show, a six-episode variety series shown on Cinemax around 1987.  Though the vendor told me the quality of the DVD was 9 out of 10, I'd give it a 4 or 5 out of 10; the picture was very bleery and smeared, though the sound was good.
     It was interesting to see Max in this variety format, talking to the guests.  A surprise for me -- actor William Shatner was interviewed by Max on one episode.  Bill's expressions on his face ranged from amusement to befuddlement to being in on the joke.

After some Net searching, I found that movie officially released on Japanese DVD, region 2.  The price would be over $40, not including shipping.

While not really 80's tv but mid 70's I was a fan of Space:1999 as a kid. I had always wanted them on DVD and knew A&E did produce them.  Problem was the only stores close to me were "starstruck entertainment" which irritatingly went bankrupt right after christmas.  But I've had some luck recently, just over a week ago I was in belleville in their one solitary mall for an hour and found the last remaining Sam the Record Man store in existance. Not only did they have the series they had the first season on blu-ray which I did not miss getting.  It was definately not cheap but most tv series are not, cost me a whopping $99+tax. I asked about season two and it is not released yet but they will be calling when they get it in.

Oh Robert, I did see your note about the bootleg Max headroom, its probably a transfer from vhs that is more than likely several generations old. Being as I do video transfers as part of my work I can say for sure that what the equipment available to most people can do to restore video quality is limited.  Even with the equipment I have I am always fighting jitter. But more on topic I am a fan of Max Headroom and if I could find it locally and in region 1 I would definately go for it, especially if blu-ray.
