Tandy 100 and NEC PC-8201

Though they have been waiting patiently in storage, I have never used these laptop gems in a productive manner, i.e., for word-processing on-the-go. My original idea when I got these was to use them as word processors and then transfer the text files to the Commodore for further word-processing.
Perhaps I should break out the Tandy 100 and bring it to Notacon/Blockparty, surprise the attendees there with it, and use it for the attended function I had planned... word-processing.

Back in the 80's the tandy unit would have made a useable terminal with its built in modem as well. Ideal from bbs demos from a user group meeting or cottage on a rainy day.

Right. I haven't done it yet. Must try to hook up the Tandy 100 to the dial-up shell account!

I didn't bring my Tandy 100 to Notacon/Blockparty, because there was no room in my stuffed suitcases. However, Nate of Notacon and/or his friends from Detroit brought in a Tandy 102 (among the boxes of C= stuff).

I have a TRS-80 Model 100. I've used it a bit (mostly tinkering). It would have been the ultimate computer for the space-conscious user back in the 80's, as it's extremely useful.

In the 1980's I couldn't afford it.

By the way, at http://www.club100.org it seems that the NADSBox is finally coming out. Though I have a TPDD for my Tandy 100, this new-age SD card drive sounds very nice. However, its pricing makes it even more expensive than the 1541 Ultimate for the Commodore!

At last Saturday's SCCAN meeting, Bogdan M. brought his latest buy, a Tandy 102. He had refurbished it and said that it was superior to the Tandy 100 (because the 102 is thinner). Them's there fighting words...!

I promised that at the April SCCAN meeting I would bring my Tandy 100 and NEC-PC8201A and that we would have a showdown among the portables.

He also spoke about burning ROMs for those portables,

At this month's TOGA meeting, I finally brought over my Tandy 100 to compare it with Bogdan's Tandy 102. The results -- less yellowing and a slightly thinner design on Bogdan's machine. He had also given it the process to smooth out any fine scratches on the clear plastic covering the LCD screen. However, when I popped open mine to show the inner workings, he marveled at how pristine the everything was inside. The rechargeable Ni-Cad inside mine was not leaking, but he said that now was the time to replace it before it did start to leak.
We looked through some of the files left by the former owner (car expenses), and he tweaked the date for me (though the machine still is not Y2K-compliant).

Last Saturday I went to pick up an upgraded Amiga 1200, and Amiga tech Duncan M. brought me over to the Weird Stuff warehouse of surplus electronic gear. In one bin was a Tandy 100 and its accompanying, outboard, dual 5 1/4" floppy drive box. Wow, I had never seen such a thing before. I was tempted to buy, but my reasoning was that I already have the outboard 3 1/2" floppy drive for the Tandy.

If it's still there in a few months, I'll consider it again,
