I'll start.  Currently, I run my own business; DigitalQuirk Solutions.  I essentially provide maintenance and installations of all manner of electronic equipment for my clients, who are small to medium business owners who need a certified technician "On Call" to keep their business up and running, but do not wish to commit to a long-term contract.  I also provide a consulting service and sales for clients who need the right equipment to meet their needs.  My web site for this business is here:

In spite of the economic downturn, business is booming.  I am a certified electronics technician, and understand what businesses need in an uncertain economy, contributing to the success of my business.

So, how about you?

In spite of the economic downturn, especially here in California, my school district is in fairly good shape, with no teacher lay-offs.  My job is pretty well-assured, because I am tied for third place in teacher seniority.

RobertB,

That is a good sign that no budget cutbacks are affecting the schools where you live. Any place that does not apply the Mal Fart effect to education gets an A. Any place that does gets 1000 lines and no recess.

My work is much like DigitalQuirk  down to my completing the Electronics Technology diploma with the wireless telecomms courses as well. My business is in a different location to DigitalQuirk so no overlap there. I to also provide computer servicing  to small business and individuals also. I also do some electronics work when needed.

Badders

I'm currently a bus driver, doing several hundred hours a week (ok, but that's how it feels), and about to leave that to go self employed as a driving instructor.

Timing has been great on that one, recession on top of us etc.

However, if certain budget propositions are not passed in the special May election, things will get far worse for schools in 2010.  There have already been 150,000 teacher lay-offs across the state.

I am an electrician at a local hospital.  I've been there about 10 years, before that
worked in construction at the Univ. of Nebraska renovating student apartments.
With health care still a growing industry, my job is fairly secure.  Our management
had worked us into a leaner, more efficient operation before the current economic
crisis started.

I have my contractors license, that lets me do some moon-light jobs on my
own.  Mainly just for friends and family, with the kids there is too much going
on in the evenings anymore.
