It seems that Duncan G. of The Other Group of Amigoids is bequeathing his Atari 800XL system to me.  After last Saturday's The Other Group of Amigoids meeting, I met him afterwards at his workshop.  He took out a box, and packed inside of it was the computer, disk drive, power supply, cables, and floppy disks.  Also that 800XL had a 320K ram expander sticking out its back (a ram expander which he said was uncommon).
My response was "What am I going to do with the machine?"  He said that I could do a cross-comparison of programs between the C64 and the 800XL.  I asked him about what was going to replace the 800XL.  He told me not to worry, because he had the newer Atari XE.
At the Sunday FCUG meeting, I told the members about the computer.  Member Louis M., also an Atari fan, told me he would train me in getting the machine going.

Last Friday I received the Atari 800XL from Duncan.  Eventually, I'll try it out.  :)

Though I am not actively doing anything with the Atari 800XL, Duncan gave me a Star Trek: SOS cartridge to use in it.  Thanks, Duncan!

At the SC3 Arcade Party eight days ago, I participated in the raffle, the raffle money going to support SC3.  Six tickets for $5.  I was the second winner of the raffle!  I went for the what I perceived to be the best prize on the table - an Atari 800XL.  Not another one!  This one was tested to be fully working and came with a game cartridge without a power supply.  Perhaps I can pick up a surplus p.s. from Weird Stuff warehouse in Santa Clara.
At today's FCUG meeting, after we finished with all of our C= business, member Louis M. opened up the machine so that we could look at the 800XL's motherboard.  It was fully socketed!  He also said that brand new, heavy-duty power supplies were available from Best Electronics.

Friend Duncan M. took the A800XL, obtained a p.s., the necessary cables and disk drive, and handed it back to me.  Now it is ready to go!
