Get an Atari... receive a disk drive...

     Oooo, the pressure is on!  Duncan M., repair tech for The Other Group of Amigoids, has offered to give me an Atari dual-disk drive, if I get an Atari 8-bit computer (600, 800, 65, or 130 series).  The catch is he has made the same offer to another would-be user.  Whoever is first to get the Atari computer wins that disk drive.
     To tempt me to get such a computer, he says that at AtariAge, there is a thread on a 512k memory expansion for Atari 8-bits that is available to buy now.

I know its a bit late Robert but I hope you got that one.  You could try bravo sierra computers, not the cheapest  but honest for a computer.  Btw, what drive is it?  a Rana 1000? or the rather rare 815 drive?

It was the latter... and the other user got the Atari before me and thus got the drive.

At least someone got it though it would have been fun if you got it.  How much did they pay for the 815 if you know.  Last time I ran across one was in the late 80's about '88 or '89.  It was owned then by an infamous bbs sysop who had paid $5000 for the rights to the Oasis junior bbs program or so he claimed only to bury it and not even run the software.  He also claimed the drive was worth $5000 at the time and made several attempts to sell it at that price only to receive not one offer on it.  But I digress it is an interesting drive.  The atari systems both 8bit and the ST range did have some good third party drives made for them over the years including the Rana-1000 I mentioned and the Indus GT which had an Atari 8bit variant in addition to the Commodore version.

I hope that guy who got the 815 did not put it up on ebay. Finding one of those at all is a huge thing, free is like being given keys to the grid free of clu & the mcp.
